Over time “black blood” has become defined as a contaminating force that delegitimizes many of the claims of people of African and Indian descent to Indian communities and nations. A revamped “one drop” rule has permeated some discourses regarding Indian…
What do you mean by the northeast tribes? I’m from a northeastern tribe (Maritimes Canada and Maine in the US) and sadly, you know more than I do again!
Oh! I just mean that, I think, in the Northeast, many Africans were absorbed into Native communities very early on (I think many were enslaved together in those early years of the slave trade), and that that eventually affected their federal recognition (or lack thereof) by the US government. Like what happened/is happening in Virginia. And I’m saying this really haphazardly from just off the top of my head and I really shouldn’t. I thought maybe you meant the Pequots in Connecticut. Most of what I have heard is that the white people in CT are jealous and say things like, “Those people aren’t Indians, they’re black!” When they opened Foxwoods the rest of us were like, “WooHoo! JOBS!” because they give hiring preference to Indians, so I’ve had relatives go down there to work.
Woa, I didn’t know that. But that is super important information. It’s all about denying folks resources isn’t it?

imma be a little off topic (way off topic) and say YOU DONT EVEN KNOW how excited i get when someone online references...
Woaahhhh. We go to Mohegan Sun sometimes and I’ve never been to Foxwoods but it’s close. I never knew this. They mad...
It certainly is and they almost decimated the tribe. It was down to two little old ladies living in trailers on Pequot...
